Using Our Ventilated Slat Bumpers

Our Slat Bumpers work by placing each individual pad over every two consecutive crib slats and tying in a knot across the exposed vertial wooden or metal slats. Ensure the padded side of the bumper is on the inside of the crib and the knots are on the outside of the crib. Below are some Frequently Asked Questions regarding our Slat bumpers.

Why Use Our Slat Bumpers?

Aslew of recent medical studies have established a link between SIDS and the re-breathing of expired carbon dioxide by sleeping infants. The risk that an infant will re-breath carbon dioxide is profoundly increased when a traditional crib bumper is used because such bumper blocks the flow of oxygen into the crib through the crib slats, causing a pooling of expired carbon dioxide around an infant’s nose and mouth. There is a reason cribs have always been made with slats—so oxygen can enter the crib. Our Crib Slat Bumpers provide the padding of a traditional bumper while still allowing oxygen to flow into the crib to prevent the re-breathing of carbon dioxide, hence SIDS.

How do I tie the ribbons of the Crib Slat Bumpers?

Our Slat Bumpers fit securely around every two consecutive slats on a crib.  Simply place the Slat Bumper over two crib slats and tie the corresponding ribbons on the outside of the crib.  The padded side should always face the inside of the crib.  All ribbons are regulation length and, for safety purposes, should be tied in a knot. Not only does this look fabulous on the crib, but it also allows you to secure the Slat Bumpers on tightly.

How do I care for my Crib Slat Bumpers?

All our Crib Slat Bumpers are machine washable, gentle cycle, and are dryer safe, low heat. Can bleach. Warm iron may be used on ties.

What if my crib has an uneven number of crib slats?

Most cribs have 14 crib slats along the front and back sides of the crib and 6 slats on the ends. However, you may find some irregular cribs have 13 slats along the front and back sides. If you find that your crib does have an uneven number, you can either leave a slat without a Slat Bumper, or you can group this single slat with one of the end/corner legs.
